Hurricane Ike approaches
So far Old Galvez has dodged the bullet this hurricane season but now it looks like the old girl’s luck has just run out.
Hurricane Ike, expected to be a Cat 3 storm by the time it makes landfall early Saturday morning, is bearing down, now projected to hit Galveston square on.
As with most hurricanes, this one has a wobble to it so exactly where it will come ashore isn’t yet known. If the eye ultimately passes directly over Galveston, she’ll be luckier than if Ike makes landfall more to the south and west. In that case, this old town would find herself on the “dirty” side of this nasty hurricane, the worst of all places to be. Read the rest of this entry »
