So me and my new good buddy Cindy (yes, Mrs. Rune, I know I should say “my new good buddy Cindy and I” but that just doesn’t work in Texas) met up this afternoon for a little long-overdue social interaction, not to mention a delightful island repast. Great time!
Having opted to blow off a previously scheduled engagement (I won’t tell tales out of school, dear friend), Cindy texted me from the Tiki Bar at The Spot on Seawall Boulevard to come down and meet her for a beer.
The Spot must be the quintessential Galveston Island hangout so no arm-twisting was required.
I had been there once before, with r (hi, r!), back in June when r and I were down here power-shopping for a house. On this visit, though, Cindy managed to snag a table for us inside. Of course, by “inside” I just mean there’s a roof over our heads. Other than that, though, it’s an open-air venue, great for Gulf breezes and Gulf views. Very nice!
After a couple of libations at The Spot, next up was dinner. It being my treat—a small token of thanks for all her hard work in helping me secure my new Galveston digs—Cindy got to pick the venue and decided on sushi so off we went to the Sky Bar on Postoffice Street downtown, a very elegant yet casual place. The food was both beautiful and delicious, the best sushi I’ve ever had, Seattle notwithstanding. Fabulous!
Finally, when it was time to go, sunset was only just creeping on so we strolled slowly back to our vehicles, pausing along the way to look up at the surrounding downtown architecture.
What a wonderful old city is Galveston. One could live here for decades and spend hours every day walking her streets, admiring her architecture, contemplating her glorious past, and probably still not adequately take in all the history that is here.
Driving around is fine and good but walking is really the way to experience Galveston. Turns out Cindy and I both love to do that. In fact, she told me that when she and hubby Kevin walk around Galveston, he insists that she put her arm in his because if they don’t lock arms she’s apt to trip and fall, so engrossed is she in looking up… I’m with ya on that, girlfriend!

After embarking on my one hour dredge, I mean drive home, I wished we had walked down the street to Mod Coffee Shop. Cappucino and a scone would have made a perfect finish dont you think?? Next time!!! Enjoyed the food and the company immensely! Peace y’all
